Tahu gejrot originally comes from a long lost world, biiiiiibbbbb. Nah, They come from Cirebon. Tahu gejrot are Cirebon indigenous cuisine, and with their crunchy spicy flavor made them one of popular snacks in the capital city. Here in Jakarta you can find them in almost every place, on the street, local market, modern market, even on your neighborhood.
Tahu gejrot made from tahu pong (name for a special tofu with hollow and crunchy texture) and poured with sour spicy sauce made from air asam jawa (tamarind water), sweet soy sauce, cabe rawit (chili), palm sugar and garlic. Blend all of it together and pour it on top of rough chop tofu. Serve on layah (pottery plate) or just ordinary plates.
